A word from the founder
Sugar and Spice started with one man, Vel Sugarnan
In 1999, I first opened Sugar and spice as a small community’s very own mini supermarket. A
family owned business that I built out of love. Once it was successful I was so happy with the
place that I decided to open another one right next to Queensbury Station! My family look after
both shops and hence look after all the customers that walk through the door.
Through the
exploration of the Indian Culture, from music and dance to food, I found my passion. I wanted to
share my flavours and my take on Indo Chinese cuisine to the world. Not only did I want a place
where you can sit back, relax and spend time with your family, I wanted a place where the
atmosphere was warm, the staff were your brothers and sisters and the food was out of this
world. And that is why I opened our very own Sugar and Spice Lounge.
